Tintagel Castle Cornwall - tintagel

Going up 100 steep steps is one access to Tintagel castle which used to stand proudly after it was built in the 13th century. The steps are uneven, cobbled and requires extreme care but nothing would beat excitement of going up through steps where thousands of feet had tramped over the years.

There are no guided tours in Tintagel Castle but there are a lot of activities available. First you can spend 20 minutes at the visitor’s center for the introductory video of the place. Walking through the vast gardens or to the castle itself could transport you back in time, when the castle became a mute witness to all the daily happenings in the castle long time ago.

To really get a feel of the famous legend, you can buy your very own Excalibur at the Tintagel Castle shop. Other items are available, too. An exploration of the Castle requires at least an hour. You could also go to Merlin’s Cave down at the cove but tides cut entrance to the cave twice a day. What made Tintagel Castle so alluring and enchanting are the many unanswered questions and legends surrounding the place.

Tintagel Castle is open on April 1 to September 30, and from October 1-March 10. Admission fee to the castle is 4.50 for adults, £2.30 for children, and £3.40 for concession. Admission is free for English Heritage Members. If you are an individual or a family, you can drop by the Tintagel castle anytime but large groups of people need to make advance booking. Groups of 11 or more paying visitors can avail of group discounts, too.
