St Mawes Castle is one of the most elaborate and preserved of Henry VIII’s coastal fortresses. It was built to counter the threats of invasion from France and Spain.

Walking around the St Mawes Castle in Cornwall is just like going back in time. It is one of the best places to visit, a place you should not miss going. A view from the top shows the castle resembling a clover leaf. From the castle, you can feast your eyes on spectacular view of the picturesque bay with fishing villages and a boat-filled harbor, the coastline and its sister fortress, the Pendennis Castle. It took five years and £5,000 to complete the castle.

With its rich history, St Mawes has continued to attract tourists from all over the world. It is an idyllic setting for wedding receptions or any other function.

For a change, book a visit to St Mawes, one the finest examples of Tudor military architecture. This is an ideal spot for a family holiday, a place where you can hold picnics in the garden and at the same time take your family back in time when the castle was occupied by soldiers, readily waiting for the attack that never came. They also have a shop serving drinks and ice cream for the guests.

The main entrance floor of the castle is accessible for wheelchair users but the battlements and bastions connected by a spiral staircase to other floors are not designed for wheelchair users.

Admission to the castle costs £3.90 for adults,£2 for children and £2.90 for concessions. A 15 percent discount is available for groups of 11 persons or more, and a free place for every additional 20 paying persons. Facilities at the castle include a gift shop, souvenir guides, toilets and parking.
