Trewithen, which means 'house of the trees' is an apt description of this fine early Georgian house surrounded by a woodland and lush gardens filled with colorful blooms. Trewithen Gardens covered some 30 acres of magnificent collections of camellias, rhododendrons, magnolias and many rare shrubs and trees. You should not miss visiting this woodland garden surrounded by landscaped parkland.

The first plants, 100 hybrids of rhododendron arboretum arrived in 1905. Bringing the plants of Trewithen to your own garden is possible. You can also buy quality plants at the Plant Sales area, most of them propagated from the plants at the Trewithen Nursery. Over 1,500 varieties of quality plants and shrubs are offered for sale.

Trewithen House is a wonderful place to see but most of the visitors come to see the gardens. This is your chance to see a collection of various flowering plants, trees and shrubs grown from seeds coming all the way from China, Burma and Assam. These plants flourished under the Cornish climate, propagated at the Trewithen Nurseries and displayed for viewing or for sale to the visitors.

Trewithen Gardens has a charming tea room which serves homely refreshments to visitors. Complete your visit to Trewithen Gardens by tasting local food, light lunches to traditional cream teas. Trewithen Gardens is open from March 1 to September 10 at 10 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Saturday. The gardens are only open on Sundays during the months of March, April and May only.
