And as you stroll away from the cliffs and into the green valley, youll meet delightful little ponds with crystal-clear water and a gurgling stream merrily tripping away. The brown-and-green woods are full of scampering squirrels and rabbits, attractive wild flowers and fluttering butterflies, and calls and songs of a variety of birds.
The wooded valley of Porthtowan will definitely enchant you!

History and Heritage
Porthtowan has a rich mining history. It was the nineteenth-century hot-spot for copper and tin mining. The Cornish Engine house, in the Wheal-Ellen copper mine, is an important heritage site. An “Engine House” was essentially a bare piece of functional architecture, which was built to serve the miners practical needs. But when you visit this particular house, youll notice its artistic “castellated stacks” and various aesthetic structures, which will make you relive the spirit and romance of those bygone days...
The picturesque town of Porthtowan has been flourishing as an attractive sea-side resort, right from the Victorian and Edwardian times. In those days dainty little tea-rooms and parlours dotted the village. Talk to the locals and theyll tell you many delightful anecdotes...
