Porthleven in Cornwall UK

A quaint village...refreshingly untouched. A heavenly beach...surprisingly undiscovered. Beautiful proud people...completely unassuming.
Welcome to the picturesque haven of Porthleven...

Fun for everyone!
The pretty fishing village of Porthleven is gifted with a gorgeous beach, backed by a granite seawall. The waters here are surging, powerful and potent. You can surf to your hearts content!
This beach is both, sand and shingle. Children will enjoy building sand-castles, picking pretty pebbles and shells, and playing in the delightful rock-pools.
You can have a whale of a time flying large colourful kites. The wind is playful and perfect for kite-flying.
And try spending a peaceful afternoon at the quayside. Just watching the lovely little boats go out, the cool blue waters, breathing in the fresh sea-air, listening to the crying sea-birds...can be a rare treat...

Loe Bar
Walk down the two-mile path, through the perfectly bewitching Penrose Wood, and itll bring you to Loe Bar. Loe Bar is a natural sandbank which got created by ancient storms. Merchant ships favoured this sea route and would often sail up the estuary as far as Helston. But in the 12th century Porthleven was in the midst of terrible storms, and thus the Loe Bar was born. It has seen some horrendous ship-wrecks, ever since...
The soil here is a unique combination of rich nutrients. Many rare and unusual plants, like the yellow-horned poppy, thrive around here. You can have a merry little picnic and soak-in on the breath-taking panorama...

You can also enjoy the lovely Loe Pool, which fills right beside Loe Bar. Loe Pool boasts of being the "largest freshwater lake in Cornwall". You can go for a fun boat-ride, and even indulge in a spot of fishing!

Local Colour
A slow stroll, through the winding lanes of the happy hamlet, is sure to delight you. The village blooms with simple unhurried gentle life. The old granite cottages with cobbled roofs, and walls of honey-suckle. The carefully tended gardens bursting with vivid blooms. Small ponds brimming with cool crystal-clear water. The raw beauty of the rustic scene will mesmerise you...

Porthleven is an inspiring muse for many artisans. You will see quite a few tastefully decorated art-galleries and pretty shops selling delightfully quaint arty knick-knacks. Youll be touched by the warmth and friendliness of the local people. Be sure to visit Casa Mia Art & Craft, Fosspotz Pottery, Julia Mills Workshop, Salt Sellar Hats, Feeline Clothing, Andrew Major : Contemporary Crafts and Paintings, Worldwide Willow, Antonia MacGregor : Glass and Albatross Gallery. Youll be blown away by the rich celebration of the creative Cornish craft & art.
