Film Studio Approved For Blue Wave Studios

7

Chris Wason has worked long and hard to overcome the concerns of over development in the Carrick District. There has long been a concern of traffic jams, and plans for residential housing that have made the struggle for the studio difficult.

The Carrick planning committee put Wason through the paces as it sent him back to rework his plans again and again for the studios, offices and business units. There is also a plan for live-work units in the area as well. Finally, after many objections to the plan the committee agreed to let the project begin.

The last rework involved changing the number of live-work units from thirty-six to thirty two and four as opposed to fourteen of the units being placed on a corner that has World Heritage Site status. Of the thirty-six units six of them will be considered affordable homes. There was no requirement to include these affordable sites in the planning committees decision.

There are a number of creative people living in the area and the addition of the studio can only bring some good to those living there. The development of the area can only bring more economic growth and a center for creative expression.

The addition of the affordable housing among the live-work units is an indication of the studios plan to be a good neighbour in the area. Helping the local people afford a place to live is something that every business should strive for and this studio certainly has taken the initiative to provide something for the community.

With the backing of the community the studio can only be a success, which means more success for the citizens of the area. The planning committee obviously felt comfortable with the plans once they were revised to meet their expectations. It is not clear from reports when construction will begin.
