The Lizard in Cornwall

In its southernmost corner, Cornwall cradles a precious child... With glorious wooded valleys... charming coves... a dramatic coastline... and rich Cornish culture... The Lizard blossoms with an elusive fragrance...

Coves and Cliffs
The lovely land of The Lizard is home to numerous coves and craggy old cliffs.

The Cadgwith Cove, Mullion Cove and the Porthleven coves are the popular coves in this region. You and your family will enjoy its warm sandy beaches and clear blue waters.
As you go north-east from Cadgwith, youll spot the romantic Kennack Cove. The locals will tell you exciting stories of a bold buccaneer called Avery, who had supposedly buried a spectacular treasure on this cove!
Kynance Cove is an intriguing inlet tucked away in The Lizard peninsula. Guarded by ancient cliffs, this hidden hideout is a haven of peace and quiet... And then there is the visual treat of Church Cove. The landscape is lovely and the beach is simply divine! And youll hear amazing stories of two treasure-carrying ships, which crashed on this cove, centuries ago...

All around the land, ancient cliffs stand tall and proud, weathering the harsh elements for centuries... They are full of hidden caves and hidey-holes....and youll have an exciting time exploring around. And you’ll marvel at the aeons-old metamorphic rock - the "serpentine" stone – a geological masterpiece!

The Lighthouse
The treacherous coastline and sensational sea storms of The Lizard have caused many a cruel end to sailing ships. In 1619, a lighthouse was built here to protect the trading vessels. Climb up its 70-metre twin-towers and soak-in on the breath-taking panorama...
A wild bunch of bewitching blooms and rare birds nest in this region. Youll be swept away by the sheer beauty of the landscape around this luminous lighthouse...

Villages and Vistas
Surrounded on almost all sides by the splendorous sea, and shielded by the massive old cliffs, The Lizard, literally cut-off from the rest of the country, flourishes quietly in its spot under the sun. The local landscape offers you some breath-taking walks through its enchanting woods and vivid-flowered valleys. Do hike around, and soak in the fascinating flora and fauna of this picturesque peninsula.

The villages in The Lizard region are a colourful celebration of the creative Cornish culture. Stroll around the lanes of the villages and absorb the quintessential charm of the quaint Cornish cottages, which quietly bask in the warm sunlight. Youre in for a delightful treat at the many art & crafts shops which dot the region. And you can get a taste of the sublime expressions of the Cornish artists, at the arresting art galleries.
