Dunheved is its original name, so impressive is the castle and it is significant strategically for the reason that it controlled the crossing of the river of Cornwall in and out. It was the Royal Mint’s site in the times of Saxon. And for many centuries, the Assizes lived there, both in the Guildhalls of town and the castle itself. You could climb the ramparts and enjoy an archer’s eye view of this wonderful and marvellous town.

Other notable places to go to or to study in Launceston is the Lawrence House, it is ornamented with a fascinating variety of historical artefacts and it is renowned as one of the deluxe museums located in the South West. One could hear stories about Launceston at the Lawrence House, even if you just stay there for a day or longer.

One would always have something to do like going west and visit the charm of Bodmin Moor and be captivated by its beauty. Then you could go east a bit and experience tranquillity in the villages of West Devon. Southgate arch now incorporates an art gallery. The town hall has a beautiful clock and quarter jacks to ring or chime hours and quarters. The Town square are bounded by narrow streets, and it is where the Georgian houses lined up splendidly.

St. Thomas Parish Church could be found in the north of the town. The church is near the Launceston Priory ruin that was established in 1126 by the good will of the Bishop of Exeter. And in conjunction with the River Kensey, the pedestrians could still cross through the classic Clapper Bridge.

The Launceston Priory used to be one of the richest in Cornwall. After it was consecrated, it was committed to St. Stephen the Proto-Martyr and the Monks in the Priory. They alleged to St. Augustine’s rule.

There are more than 16 stalls that sell a wide variety of top class produce from the West Country in the Launceston Butter Market. There you could find pies and cakes, eggs, honey, vegetables and fruits, home made bread, sausages, cheese, mustard and dressings, plants, meat, crisps, juices, pâtés, jams and preserves, incense, soap, fleeces, jewellery and novelty items.
