From the 10th to the 13th of September tall ships from far and wide will gather in Falmouth for the start of the Funchel 500 sailing regatta organized by sail training international.
The tall ships will race onto the port of Aveiro in Portugal before finishing in Funchal Madeira. While in Falmouth the tall ships will be available for the general public to board and get a feel for these vast vessels. A total of 30 boats are expected and the three days will be accompanied with various shoreside events.

The event starts with Orchestra of the Swan performing Mozarts Symphony No. 40 in G Minor. Orchestra of the Swan are famous for reproducing masterpieces of our age with brilliance, zest and a great presentation. Orchestra of the Swan and the Wessex Concert Orchestra collaborate with Errolyn Wallens highly original Speed Dating for Two Orchestras. Wallen won the BBC Radio 3 British Composers Award in 2005. The event ends with a colourful performance by Scheherazade, famous for their ties to Russia at the time of the Czars.

The Frog Princess is a heartwarming story for the entire Cornwall to smile to. Ivan is forced to marry a frog, who he discovers is a beautiful princess under an evil spell. He tries to release her from the spell, which backfires, and she is lost in another part of the world. Brave Ivan tries to find her and win her back. The performance by Wild Wood Theatre has an earthy touch and an emotional musical score with it. Families can opt to take part in a workshop and create puppets from the story to be featured during the performance.

A 21 stringed harp-like instrument indigenous to Africa, the kora is the life and lifeline of Doudou Cissoko. Hailing from a family of well-known musicians, Cissoko continues the family tradition with a difference. Hatstand Opera is popular for performing in festivals, for theatre and private parties at the same time. Pearl of Africa is a singing from straight from the ethnic country of Uganda, Africa. The Pearl of Africa Childrens Choir has been on a UK tour, and they will sing for Cornwall on Tuesday as a part of the Roseland Festival 2008. This is the time to know about and appreciate a culture totally different from our own, and totally unique in its own respect. Peter Hearn, the very loved and popular author, story teller, poet, musician and folklorist returns to Gerrans, Cornwall. He will entertain the audience through literature, poetry, stories, folklores, and of course, a lot of music. The night will also see local author Chris Pollard introducing his new book, with Portscatho as the theme, to the audience.

For the Roseland Festival 2008, Recorder Ensemble will give a concert that can not be missed. These young musicians have been to innumerable concerts in Cornwall, and have won hearts over and over again. They will perform again on Wednesday, and it is not inane to believe that the performance will be a must see. Richard Lander has given music to several private and public events, schools and parties alike. The evening is perfect for a family outing and will soothe and relax every member of the audience with music that no one can dislike, no one can not simply admire.

Andy Secombe, the humorous novelist from South Wales comes to Cornwall for the Roseland Festival 2008 for an evening full of laughter and smiles. He will talk about his muses, all the people who helped and influenced him and his writings. He will also speak about his new book, Looking for Mr. Piggy-Wig. A thriller centered about investigator Jack Lindsay, Looking for Mr. Piggy-Wig traces an international conspiracy involving smuggling of ammunition, assassination of politicians and burger outlets. It will certainly be one of the lighter evenings to look forward to.

Dee and Dave Brotherton along with Mike Erza appear for the Roseland Festival 2008 on a night titled With the Beatles A Magical Mystery Tour. They will perform music which is set to make up a night full of great entertainment. This is your chance to make a trip to China Clay Workings. The trip will be made via bus. The first stop will be at St. Mawes at 9:30 in the morning, followed by a stop at Trewithian at 9:40, RuanHighLanes at 9:45 and the last stop will be at Tregony at 9:50. The tour will be led by Ivor Bowditch. Booking is essential for the event. Roseland Festival 2008 includes an afternoon trip on Sunday, October 26th on the River Fal. It is this river that plays an important part in demarcating Roseland and isolating it from the rest of Cornwall. It is a beautiful sight from the waters, with castles and gardens lying near the banks. The trip will be very scenic, and will surely provide eye candy to all nature lovers. The trip is made with the help of Newmans Cruises, a company run by a family for decades thriving on business based on the river.

Roseland Festival 2008 brings back the harp and flute duo of Camilla Pay and Eliza Marshall to Cornwall. Formerly known as the Arion Duo, Pay and Marshall are performing as Willow this year. It is certain that the applause of November 2006 in the Roseland Music Society will be repeated this year as these beautiful girls entertain us through an evening of gay and colourful music. Here is another one of the many guided walks that will take place during the Roseland Festival 2008. Monday mornings walk is with Alan January. The walk, which goes on for an hour, will take place at St. Antony Headland. The guide will talk about the ammunition store, barracks and the bird hide of Roseland. It is an educative and fun way to start Monday morning, while maintaining the festivity Roseland shines with during the festival. Booking tickets is essential if you want to participate. The young group of these four very gifted musicians hailing from Truro College with a degree in the jazz course is going to perform for Cornwall in one of the better Jazz nights of the festival. Inspired by very skillful tutors, these young musicians will perform modern jazz music as well as compositions by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and the likes. They will also perform original compositions. Called The Pete Ibbetson Quartet, they have assured and reassured the world that the future of Jazz is not dwindling.

It is at Tregony this Tuesday that one of the most eagerly awaited events of the Roseland Festival will take place. The Roseland Poets gather to render Vogon poetry shameful! On a serious note, the beauty of words, the humour in anecdotes and the emotions in lyrics are going to be recounted again in Tregony as our very own local poets gather to entertain the crowd through a night of mixed emotions. Dr. Miles Hoskin will introduce Luc Bessons classic film Atlantis, which features no dialogues, and tells the story of underwater living creatures and non-living factors.
