This prison also played an important role during the World War I when it held two of Britain’s great and priceless national treasures—the Crown Jewels of United Kingdom and the Domesday Book. The Domesday Book is a written record of statistical survey of England. The creation of this book was ordered by William the Conqueror. It was made to register the landed wealth of the country in a systematic manner so the king can determine the revenues that are due to the king. Other historical interests in Bodmin are: Shire Hall, now Bodmin’s tourist information center. Regimental Barracks of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. It is now known as the Bodmin’s regimental museum. The former building for the Regimental Barracks is the site for the museum. It stores the regiment history as early as 1700s. The museum also showcases the appealing military library. You can find here collections of small arms, machine guns, uniforms, paintings, and plus maps. Norman Church of St. Petroc. This is one of the biggest churches ever built in Cornwall, England. This church was inspired to be built in Bodmin because St. Petroc has founded a priory in this town during the 6th century.
