Fowey Harbour is a commercial fishing harbour located on the south coast of Cornwall. It’s about halfway between Plymouth and Falmouth. The River Fowey lends its name to the town which sits on its western banks. Polruan is across the way on the Eastern bank.
Fowey is a deep water harbour of natural occurrence. It is incredibly picturesque and a true natural beauty. Fowey, commercially, is important to the exportation of clay from China exporting more than 1.4 million tons per year using over 550 ships. The ancient village of Polruan is situated on the south coast of Cornwall and the eastern bank opposed to the town of Fowey. Polruan is know the world over for its shipbuilding heritage. The Fowey river is a thriving central point for fishing, sailing, building and agriculture. Polruan is surrounded by water on three sides. The positioning of the town made a great defensive position for the earliest inhabitants. The charm of the area is unmatched and it remains small and peaceful.
Polruan is so small that there is only one road leading in and out of the center of town. There is one small inn on the outskirts of the time along with several pubs and eateries. If you’re a boats man you can rent a yacht with your friends and take a leisurely stroll around the harbour. Polruan is also home to a wonderful annual carnival where you can party into the wee hours of the night.
